HAS TRIBE FESTIVUS RETURNED?

As this arrived on my email on March 20, I first assumed in was a brilliant Purim shpiel. It wasn't.

This speaks for itself...or, perhaps, it doesn't:

I am so old that I remember the days when the Young Leadership Cabinet was engaged in substance; when it stood for something...oh, the hell with it.

I'm speechless.

Having been to two of the TribeFests, here are some observations...

1) Just merely having a Shabbat dinner does not make it an event with Jewish content
2) Paying money to a third party's personal PayPal account?
3) They left out "there will be no solicitation of funds."

Received a reminder that registration for this thing is ending -- act now, or some such. Question: did JFNA sell its Cabinet mailing list for a for-profit event? What is the purpose of the Cabinet today? Any?

A $600 Registration Fee payable to a private person + a three night hotel stay (at what, $200/night) plus meals and, for some, air fare. Who authorized this? Why?

First, important to note: meals and cocktails are included in the $600 Registartion Fee.

Then, as the E-vite Reminder stated in a footnote:

"Cabinet Calm is planned and self-organized by National Young Leadership Cabinet Chevre."

The questions posed above resonate: who authorized this thing...and, WHY?

Question that an attorney might opine on: If inappropriate behaviour occurs at this gathering, which appears to be a private venture with JFNA blessing, where does liability lie?
So sad that we are outsourcing and privatizing so many of the processes of organized Jewish life.

To Bob Hyfler:

The "gathering" itself is inappropriate, unworthy of the Cabinet, the Federations yet consistent with an orgabnization with neither purpose nor values.
