ENOUGH ALREADY

1. All of us without exception reacted with horror and rage at the slaughter of 15 teenagers and two faculty on the campus of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. 15 teenagers, 5 of them Jewish. It took 6 days for the JCPA to issue a strong statement: JCPA Expresses Outrage at Mass Shooting at Parkland High School and Calls for Action to Combat Gun Violence. 6 days of silence followed by a strong statement.

Then there's JFNA -- not a word. I guess the sense that Jerry and Richard and Cindy have is "none of our business." For there can be no other rational explanation, can there be?

I've read the statements emanating from countless federations echoing the powerful words of JCPA, but from JFNA, our JFNA...nothing...absolutely nothing. The MetroWest Federation organized an anti-gun rally...but from JFNA...only silence.

Wouldn't all of us want our Continental organization at the least (and no can expect anything from these chachams but the very least) to have decried this senseless atrocity from the muzzle of an AR-15 of our nation's young...maybe...maybe...a word in support of the young people who have now mounted an offensive against the easy proliferation of assault rifles in our society.

But, no, nothing.

The silence is deafening.

2. At the end of February, the Conference of Presidents convened its annual Mission including almost a week on the ground in Israel. JFNA was well represented by William  Daroff. But, for some reason, Becky Caspi, the Director General of JFNA-Israel had the time to also be on that Mission. Of course she had the time. Could Daroff have "handled" this "representation" without a "second?" Of course, he could have.

Which raises the question. Is anyone providing any management of JFNA-Israel at all? Is Caspi some form of independent contractor operating according to her own whims? What does she do? What is she supposed to be doing?

Does Silverman manage anyone? Does Gurvis?

Enough already.

Damn it; enough already.

Ask the people who worked at FJC under Jerry for confirmation: as a manager he was horrific. Either Manning never asked (likely) or didn't care when she pushed his candidacy.

Caspi is a loose cannon continually causing damage to JFNA.

But will Sandler act? Of course not. Will Cindy? Remains to be seen but don't hold your breath. A worthy leader and philanthropist, she's not looking to replace Sandler for anything but the kavod.

Forgive my ignorance, but who is Cindy?
And has she been named as Sandler's successor?

To Anon 6:46, are you suggesting that the JFNA search committee didn't do any due diligence before they hired Silverman?
Or even worse, that the JFNA compensation committee after having Silverman at JFNA for 4 years perform a basic evaluation before renewing his contract?
Is anyone holding the members of those 2 JFNA committees accountable?
We all know too well the answers to these questions, and so here we are in 2018.

To anon 7:38:

Due diligence? Evaluation? Sandler holding ANYONE accountable at JFNA for ANYTHING?
You're funny - or you need your morning coffee.

Loose cannons all!
That is what you get when there is no management or supervision.
The results are not surprising - a tremendous waste of resources and more damage than good.

No management and no supervision - also no lay leadership oversight!
A free for all in free fall!

To Anon on 3/15 at 7:15. "Cindy" is Cindy Shapiro, Jfna's one and only Vice-Chair. She moved to Pittsburgh after marrying the philanthropist David Shapiro and, by dint of her philanthropic time and financial contributions quickly became a local Federation leader while moving up the leadership ladder at JFNA. Unlike Sandler, she has made significant strategic financial contributions at JFNA which have propelled her toward her leadership goals.

Thanks 7:31.
But if she is so involved and smart, why in the world would she want to be considered for this position?
Or perhaps Jerry sees in her what he saw in Siegal and Sandler?
Are there any other candidates to succeed Sandler?

You can't buy love but you can buy the organized Jewish world. And then we wonder why we are losing gifts in the aggregate and large segments of the young?

Other possible successors to Sandler beyond Shapiro: David Brown, David Butler, Mark Wilf, Sharon Janks, any leader from NY-UJA, Skip Schrayer. Would any of them show the independence that might produce a different JFNA? Yes, Wilf and any leader from NY. The rest would just be putty.

NY by virtue of its annual dues to JFNA already has leverage if they truly want to effectuate change.
